About this role
BMS COMMISSIONING ENGINEER Manchester | Liverpool | North West
Up to £58,000 + Company Car or £6,825 Car Allowance + Bonus + Benefits If you’re already commissioning BMS systems around Manchester, Liverpool or the wider North West, the interesting part of your next move is probably how much of the commissioning process you actually get to own. This BMS Commissioning Engineer role goes beyond point-to-point. You’ll take systems through commissioning, software and graphics modifications, BACnet, Modbus and M-Bus integrations, witnessing and client handover. You’ll receive up to £58,000 plus your choice of company car or £6,825 car allowance, performance-related bonus and wider benefits.
WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY BE DOING AND WHY IT MATTERS
You’ll work across BMS projects throughout Manchester, Liverpool and the wider North West, using the approved design information to turn the installed controls into a tested, working system. Your commissioning can cover point-to-point, point-to-software and point-to-graphics testing alongside modification of BMS software and graphics. You’ll also commission third-party integrations using BACnet, Modbus and M-Bus, investigate technical issues and make sure the commissioned system reflects the intended design. Your involvement continues towards project completion. You’ll maintain backups and commissioning documentation, keep witnessing packs up to date and work with Project Managers, subcontractors and customers to resolve engineering issues. Ultimately, you’ll help take the BMS through witnessing, demonstration and final handover.
WHY THIS ROLE COULD BE BETTER
If you’re already an established BMS Commissioning Engineer, a different employer needs to offer more than another set of points to commission. The opportunity here is the breadth of your involvement. You can work across: • Full BMS commissioning, software and graphics modifications
• BACnet, Modbus and M-Bus integrations
• Technical documentation, witnessing and customer handover There’s also breadth across the controls platforms. Relevant experience can come from Trend, Tridium, Schneider or ALC systems, alongside knowledge of Niagara-based systems. You may also supervise junior engineers and provide technical support to other members of the commissioning team, allowing you to share your experience while continuing to develop your own technical capability.
ESSENTIALS
You’ll need proven BMS commissioning experience with at least one of Trend, Tridium, Schneider or ALC. You’ll also need knowledge of Niagara-based systems and the ability to interpret and alter existing BMS control strategies. A good understanding of HVAC systems and electrical competence are important, as you’ll need to understand what the controls are supposed to achieve rather than simply prove individual points. You’ll need to be comfortable working independently on site while also contributing to the wider project and commissioning team.
THE CHALLENGES
Commissioning carries accountability at the point where design, installation and software all need to come together. You’ll need to identify and communicate engineering or design issues, maintain accurate commissioning records and make sure systems are ready for witnessing and handover. There will also be occasions where you need to coordinate with subcontract engineers or provide technical support to other team members. This is a field-based position covering project sites across Manchester, Liverpool and the wider North West, so regular travel within the region forms part of the role.
YOUR DEVELOPMENT
The technical breadth gives you scope to develop beyond the commissioning activities you may already know well. You can deepen your experience across BMS software and graphics, third-party integrations, technical documentation, surveys, witnessing and client handover. You may also have the opportunity to supervise junior engineers and share technical knowledge across the commissioning team. Training courses are available as required, with commercial-awareness training also provided where needed.
PACKAGE ON OFFER
Up to £58,000 basic salary Company car or £6,825 annual car allowance Company performance-related bonus scheme 7.5% pension, increasing to 8.75% after five years’ service and 10% after ten years 25 days’ annual leave, increasing to 26 days after two years’ service and 27 days after eight years Plus: • Private healthcare

• EV salary sacrifice scheme
• Interest-free EV charger loan up to £1,000
