Health And Safety Advisor
About this role
Health, Safety & Environmental Officer | £35,000–£40,000
Doncaster | Manufacturing & Engineering | 4.5 Day Week | Early Friday Finish
Are you someone who enjoys being out on the shop floor, getting to know people and making things happen, rather than spending your day behind a desk?
Perhaps you've gained some good Health & Safety experience within manufacturing or engineering and are ready for a role where you can take more ownership, have a greater say in how things are done and really make your mark.
I'm recruiting a Health, Safety & Environmental Officer for a well-established British manufacturing business in Doncaster, and I think there's quite a lot to be excited about.
This is a business that's proud to manufacture here in the UK, with a long heritage, new ownership, a strengthened leadership team and a healthy order book stretching through 2027 and into 2028.
There's a real sense of momentum, with people who are passionate about what they do, plenty of ambition and a shared determination to make the business a success.
And that's where this opportunity comes in.
They're looking for someone who wants to be part of the team, roll their sleeves up and help shape how Health, Safety & Environmental matters are managed as the business continues to grow.
What's in it for you?
-
£35,000–£40,000, depending on experience.
-
4.5 day working week, Monday to Thursday, 7.15am–4.30pm, and Friday, 7.15am–12.15pm.
-
33 days' annual leave equivalent, including bank holidays.
-
Death in service benefit at twice your annual salary.
-
Employee Assistance Programme and virtual GP service.
-
Employee benefits and discount scheme, including savings at major retailers and supermarkets.
-
Company pension and free on-site parking.
-
Company social events and a friendly, supportive working environment.
-
The opportunity to develop your skills, knowledge and career as the business grows.
And perhaps one of the biggest attractions is the opportunity to make this role your own, with the support of a management team who want your ideas, value your input and are committed to making improvements.
So, what will you actually be doing?
This isn't a role where you'll simply inherit an established set of systems and be expected to keep everything ticking over.
There are things to develop, processes to improve and opportunities to make a real difference.
But to do that, you'll need to get underneath the skin of the business.
Spend time on the shop floor. Understand how things work. Get to know the people, the challenges they face and what could be done better.
As the Health, Safety & Environmental Officer, you'll be:
-
Working closely with Production, Engineering and the wider management team, building strong relationships across the business.
-
Taking ownership of day-to-day Health, Safety & Environmental matters and helping develop the longer-term HSE approach.
-
Reviewing and improving policies, risk assessments, COSHH, safe systems of work and working practices.
-
Identifying risks and working with colleagues to introduce practical, sustainable improvements.
-
Supporting the development and improvement of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems and environmental compliance.
-
Carrying out audits, inspections and incident investigations, ensuring actions are followed through.
-
Monitoring environmental performance, including waste management and emissions.
-
Helping colleagues understand the importance of Health & Safety through training, toolbox talks and everyday conversations.
-
Working with the leadership team to identify priorities, measure progress and continue raising standards.
It's about bringing people with you, not simply telling them what to do.
They want someone who can become part of the team, earn people's trust and make Health & Safety something everyone takes responsibility for.
What kind of person are we looking for?
Someone who enjoys manufacturing, likes working with people and isn't afraid to get stuck in.
You'll ideally bring:
-
Experience in a Health & Safety role within manufacturing, engineering or a similar hands-on industrial environment.
-
A practical understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation, risk management and safe working practices.
-
Ideally an IOSH qualification. NEBOSH would be welcomed but isn't essential.
-
Some knowledge of environmental responsibilities and ISO standards, with a willingness to develop this further.
-
The confidence to challenge unsafe practices, influence others and have constructive conversations with people at every level.
-
A proactive, solutions-focused approach, plenty of common sense and the drive to see things through.
-
The ability to work independently whilst being very much part of the wider team.
You don't need to arrive knowing absolutely everything, and you don't need to have held a senior HSE position.
What matters is having a good foundation, an understanding of a busy manufacturing environment and the enthusiasm to keep learning and developing.
Why this opportunity?
Because you'll be joining a business at an exciting point in its development.
There's a full order book, a management team with a clear appetite for improvement and colleagues who want to pull together to make things work.
You'll have the chance to influence decisions, introduce new ideas and see the difference your work makes, not just in policies and procedures, but in how people work together every day.
For the right Health, Safety & Environmental Officer, there's an opportunity to develop alongside the business and play a genuinely important part in its future.
Interested?
If you're an experienced or developing Health, Safety & Environmental Officer who enjoys manufacturing, values teamwork and wants the opportunity to take real ownership, I'd love to hear from you.
And if you're not quite sure whether your experience ticks every box, please don't let that put you off.
