About this role

Cyber Security Engineer

Cyber Strategy | AI Governance | Microsoft Security

We're recruiting for a Cyber Security Engineer to join an established financial services business. This role offers broad responsibility for cyber security, from shaping strategy and managing an external SOC relationship to helping the business adopt AI safely.

You'll combine technical knowledge with the ability to influence decisions and explain security clearly. The emphasis is on identifying emerging risks, improving security capability and translating recommendations into practical action.

The role

  • Help shape and deliver the cyber security strategy, identifying priorities and driving improvements.
  • Manage the relationship with the external Security Operations Centre, reviewing service effectiveness and coordinating investigations and incident response.
  • Monitor emerging threats, technologies and regulatory developments to understand their potential impact.
  • Develop AI governance, controls and guidance to support the safe adoption of Microsoft Copilot and other AI tools.
  • Deliver engaging training, presentations and awareness activities for colleagues across the business.
  • Assess and improve security controls across Microsoft cloud, endpoint and identity environments.
  • Oversee vulnerability management, working with internal teams and suppliers to prioritise remediation.
  • Provide security guidance on technology projects and business changes.
  • Maintain clear documentation, procedures and operational records.

About you

You'll have experience taking responsibility for security decisions and improvements beyond day to day alert triage. You'll be comfortable working independently, challenging constructively and collaborating within a smaller IT team.

We're looking for:

  • A strong cyber security background, with experience contributing to strategy and delivering improvements.
  • Experience managing an external SOC or security service provider.
  • Practical knowledge of Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Sentinel.
  • An understanding of cloud security, incident response and vulnerability management.
  • An interest in AI governance, including how to assess risks and establish proportionate controls.
  • The confidence to deliver presentations and training to non technical audiences.
  • The ability to turn technical findings into clear business recommendations.

Experience with Defender for Cloud or Microsoft Agent 365 would be useful. A background in a regulated environment, such as financial services, utilities, energy or healthcare, would also be an advantage.

What's on offer

  • 10% employer pension contributions.
  • Bonus scheme, subject to eligibility.
  • 30 days' holiday plus bank holidays, with a holiday selling scheme.
  • Flexible working options.
  • Private medical insurance, including optical and dental cover, from day one.
  • Life cover at four times your salary from day one.
  • Income protection.
  • Salary sacrifice cycle to work and electric car schemes.
  • Interest free personal loans for a range of purposes.
  • Perkbox membership.
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay.
  • Learning and development opportunities.
  • Social events, wellbeing support and opportunities to contribute to community initiatives.
