Fleet Quality Assurance Engineer
About this role
Glasgow | £50,000 - £55,000 + Rail Benefits + Hybrid Working
The SituationThis is not a typical Fleet Engineer opportunity.
We're supporting a highly specialised rail operator that delivers a unique service within the UK rail industry. Due to the nature of its operation, fleet, stakeholder environment and engineering structure, this role offers exposure and responsibility that would typically take years to achieve in a larger organisation.
The position has been vacant for some time and has historically been supported by consultancy resource. The business is now looking to appoint a permanent Fleet Technical Engineer who can take ownership of technical assurance, engineering change and safety-related engineering activities across a modern passenger fleet.
For the right engineer, this is an opportunity to become a key technical figure within a small, highly collaborative team where individual contributions genuinely shape the direction of the fleet.
The OpportunityOpportunities like this are rare.
Working within a small engineering function, you'll gain visibility across virtually every aspect of fleet engineering, from technical assurance and engineering change through to supplier management, safety investigations and fleet improvement initiatives.
Unlike larger rail organisations where responsibilities can be highly siloed, this role provides broad technical exposure and real ownership. You'll engage directly with senior stakeholders, influence engineering decisions, and play a leading role in maintaining and improving a modern rolling stock fleet.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to move beyond purely maintenance, reliability or engineering support activities and into a position where they can combine technical expertise, assurance, governance and stakeholder management.
Within your first 12 months, you will be expected to:
- Drive engineering change activities through to successful implementation.
- Reduce existing engineering action backlogs.
- Manage and progress safety-related defect investigations.
- Improve visibility and reporting of technical risks and engineering actions.
- Support technical assurance and governance activities.
- Establish robust tracking and close-out processes.
- Lead regular stakeholder review meetings and engineering forums.
- Provide clear management information and KPI reporting.
