They have particular expertise in engaging and supporting communities that face barriers to accessing mainstream services.

About the Role

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you’ll deliver mental health and general wellbeing services that put the people Preston Muslim Forum supports at the heart of everything you do.

Through non-clinical therapeutic interventions, tailored activities and individual support, you’ll help improve people’s mental, emotional, physical and socio-economic wellbeing. Working closely with colleagues, volunteers, communities and service providers, you’ll take a holistic approach to helping people achieve positive change.

Your responsibilities will include:

*    Promoting mental health awareness and reducing stigma, including barriers linked to culture, faith or language.

*    Assessing individual needs using appropriate tools, developing bespoke recovery plans and delivering tailored activities, interventions and peer support groups.

*    Where appropriately qualified, delivering short-term 1:1 counselling within your professional competence, following the BACP Ethical Framework or equivalent and Preston Muslim Forum’s policies.

*    Working with colleagues to provide wrap-around support and building partnerships that reduce inequalities and improve access to mainstream mental health services.

*    Safeguarding children and adults at risk, reporting concerns and following and contributing to Preston Muslim Forum’s policies, particularly Safeguarding, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion and Health & Safety.

*    Achieving agreed funding outcomes, maintaining accurate and confidential records in line with UK GDPR and Preston Muslim Forum’s Data Protection Policy, and producing monitoring reports for your line manager.

*    Reviewing the service delivery model formally twice a year, making improvements and participating in supervision, clinical supervision where applicable, and continuing professional development.

About You

You’ll bring an inclusive, compassionate approach and a commitment to Preston Muslim Forum’s mission, culture and values. You’ll put beneficiaries first and be focused on delivering high-quality support to people from all communities.

You’ll be able to:

*    Engage sensitively with people from diverse backgrounds, recognising cultural, faith and language barriers to support.

*    Tailor activities and interventions to individual needs and circumstances.

*    Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers and external services.

*    Communicate effectively, build trusted relationships and maintain appropriate professional boundaries.

*    Keep accurate records, report on outcomes and maintain confidentiality.

*    Promote equality, diversity and inclusion throughout your work.

*    Recognise safeguarding concerns and follow the appropriate reporting procedures.

Counselling will only form part of your work where you hold appropriate qualifications and can practise within your professional competence.

Travel across Preston and some evening and weekend working will be required. Time off in lieu can be taken for evening and weekend work.

This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check and evidence of the right to work in the UK. Duties may develop as the project grows, with other responsibilities appropriate to the post.
