Senior Quantity Surveyor

Your new company
You will be joining a leading Tier 1 contractor delivering a major, long-term infrastructure programme within the UK energy sector. The organisation has secured an expanding pipeline of complex work packages and is committed to developing a lasting presence on the programme.
Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to provide commercial leadership across secured and upcoming work packages.

Your new role
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will take commercial responsibility for a portfolio of packages, supporting their delivery from procurement through to final account.
You will work closely with project leadership, operational teams, clients and the supply chain to maximise commercial performance, improve cash flow and manage contractual risk. The position will also provide commercial support and guidance to the wider project team, ensuring compliance with internal governance procedures and NEC4 contractual requirements. Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting programme profitability, cost certainty and cash-performance objectives
• Developing detailed cost forecasts, cost-to-complete assessments and commercial reports
• Preparing monthly CVRs and reporting on project commercial performance
• Administering contracts under NEC4
• Identifying, preparing and managing compensation events, early warnings, quotations and contractual notices
• Managing subcontractors from procurement through to final account
• Preparing tender documentation and undertaking commercial evaluations
• Managing subcontract change, payments and performance
• Negotiating and agreeing subcontractor and client-facing final accounts
• Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities
• Providing commercial advice to senior project and programme stakeholders
• Mentoring Quantity Surveyors, Assistant Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Trainees [STEP SQS.pdf | PDF]

What you'll need to succeed

You will be an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with a strong contractor-side background gained within major infrastructure, energy, nuclear, defence or similarly complex construction environments.
You will also require:

• Strong working knowledge of the NEC suite of contracts
• Experience managing complex subcontract procurement and commercial work packages
• Proven knowledge of change management, contractual entitlement and commercial risk
• Strong cost planning, forecasting and reporting capabilities
• Experience preparing and managing CVRs
• Excellent negotiation and stakeholder-management skills
• The ability to operate strategically while maintaining control of detailed commercial matters
• Strong commercial awareness and business acumen
