Reactive Electrical Engineer
About this role
Reactive Electrical Engineer
Location: Cheshire based, mobile role with travel
Salary: £20.08 per hour + overtime, realistic earnings £55k–£60k
Type: Permanent, full time
Are you a commercial electrician who’s at your best when something’s gone wrong and needs sorting? Do you have experience in retail or other live trading environments? This could be a really good fit.
I’m working with an established, growing FM and building services contractor. They look after large retail and commercial estates and are looking for Reactive Electrical Engineers to join their electrical division, based out of Cheshire.
This is a reactive maintenance role, not a testing-only or installation position. Most of your day will be spent responding to faults and breakdowns in live stores. When a fault hits trading, power or refrigeration, the customer needs it fixed quickly and properly. You’ll need to be someone who understands that urgency and can stay calm and get on with it on your own.
It’s a mobile role covering multiple sites, so you’ll be travelling as part of the job and will sometimes need to work away. When you do, accommodation and meals are covered.
The company has a good culture and engineers are trusted to manage their own work without being micromanaged. In return, they need people who are reliable, responsive and genuinely happy working independently.
What the work involves
- Reactive electrical maintenance, breakdowns and emergency call-outs
- Fault finding and diagnostics on LV and 3-phase systems
- Lighting and power faults, emergency lighting

- Qualified electrician: NVQ Level 3 / AM2, 18th Edition
- ECS / JIB Gold Card preferred
- Asbestos Awareness
- Solid commercial or FM electrical maintenance experience, with strong fault finding
- Retail experience is a big advantage, especially supermarkets or other live trading environments
- Comfortable working alone and covering multiple sites
- Happy to travel and work away when needed
Package
- £20.08 per hour, approx. £41,766 basic on a 40-hour week
- Overtime after 40 hours at enhanced rates, with realistic earnings of £55k–£60k and more available if you want the extra hours
- Jobs can be booked as 10-hour shifts. On applicable jobs, the full shift is paid even if you finish early
- Paid door-to-door travel on applicable work
- Company van and fuel card
- Tools and PPE provided
- Accommodation provided when working away, plus a £25 meal allowance
