This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with previous experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly those who may have experienced difficulties engaging with mainstream education.
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other professionals to provide tailored classroom support and help pupils overcome barriers to learning. You will play a key role in encouraging children to rebuild their confidence, develop positive relationships and re-engage with education in a safe, structured and supportive environment.
The ideal candidate will be patient, adaptable and committed to helping every pupil achieve their individual potential, both academically and personally.
What You'll Be Doing
Providing one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEND, adapting your approach to suit their individual needs.
Supporting teachers in delivering engaging learning activities that encourage pupils to participate and make progress.
Helping children with autism, ADHD, communication difficulties and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
Encouraging pupils to develop their confidence, independence, communication and social skills.
Supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviours by using calm, consistent and positive strategies.
Helping children re-engage with learning and develop positive attitudes towards education.
Building trusting relationships with pupils to create a sense of safety, stability and belonging.
Monitoring pupils' progress and sharing observations with teaching staff to support their ongoing development.
Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals to ensure consistent and effective support.
Promoting a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment where every child is encouraged to succeed.
What We're Looking For
To be successful in this role, you will need:
Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND is essential.
A genuine passion for supporting pupils who face barriers to learning.
Experience working with children who have additional learning needs, emotional regulation difficulties or challenging behaviours.
A patient, empathetic and resilient approach, with the ability to remain calm and consistent in difficult situations.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues.
The ability to adapt your support to meet individual learning needs and encourage pupil engagement.
A proactive and flexible attitude, with the confidence to work independently and as part of a team.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification would be advantageous, alongside experience in a specialist SEND setting, alternative provision or a similar educational environment.
Why Apply?
Competitive daily rate of £105.
Full-time work, Monday to Friday.
The opportunity to make a meaningful difference to pupils who need additional support to access education.
The chance to help children develop confidence, independence and positive learning habits.
Ongoing support from Aspire People throughout your placement.
