About the company
Allan Stobart Fuels is part of WCF, an employee-owned group. The Carnforth depot is home to a close-knit team of drivers delivering fuel to businesses across the North West. It's a wet depot with its own loading gantries, and the site is rebuilding after a recent merger, with real scope to grow the team and the customer base. You'll be joining at a genuinely pivotal point.
The role
As Transport Manager, you'll be the named Transport Manager on the depot's Operator's Licence, with full accountability for compliance, fleet performance and the day-to-day running of transport operations. You'll lead a team of drivers and a router, working closely with the Head of Fuels, who is there to support and advise rather than dictate. Success looks like a safe, compliant, well-run depot and a team that trusts your lead.
Key responsibilities
You'll:
- Hold full accountability for the depot's Operator's Licence, compliance and audit readiness
- Lead, support and build morale across a team of drivers and a router
- Manage vehicle maintenance, servicing, inspections and breakdown resolution
- Oversee health and safety, reporting and resolving faults across the site and gantries
- Act as the main point of contact for third-party contractors and suppliers
- Travel occasionally to support other depots and attend wider WCF transport meetings
What you'll bring
Essential
- CPC-qualified Transport Manager, ready to be named on the Operator's Licence
- Current HGV driving licence
- Proven experience leading transport operations, with accountability for performance and standards
- Strong working knowledge of transport compliance: tachographs, driver hours, vehicle roadworthiness and DVSA requirements
- Experience managing and developing a team of drivers
- Team player, with a positive “can-do” attitude.
Useful, not essential
- ADR licence, or a willingness to work towards one
- Background in fuel or bulk liquid distribution
- Experience managing multi-site teams
- Experience with wet depots, tankers or loading gantries
