About this role
Quality Manager:
Tipton, Up to £55,000, 37 hours per week, Flexible working hours, Early Friday finish
How often do you get the chance as a Quality Manager to build your own team, in a brand-new manufacturing facility, without having to start everything from scratch?
There's a new manufacturing site in Tipton, already open and with plans to grow to around 70 people.
And as Quality Manager, you'll have a big part to play in how it develops.
The business already has an established manufacturing operation in Wolverhampton, but this new facility is taking a different approach.
Rather than producing bespoke, one-off products, they'll be moving into repeat production for the nuclear industry.
Which means quality, traceability and documentation are going to be incredibly important.
There's already an experienced contractor in place, with an extensive nuclear background, who's implementing the QMS and preparing the site for ISO 9001 accreditation.
So, when you join as Quality Manager, you won't be expected to come in and implement everything yourself.
You'll be working alongside the contractor initially, getting to know the processes and the people, before taking responsibility for quality as the site moves into production.
And you'll be building your own team.
The business is currently using quality resources from its existing sites, but the plan is to recruit Quality Engineers, NDT Inspectors and Dimensional Inspectors as production increases.
You have the opportunity here to build your own team, making sure the department has the right people as the business grows.
As Quality Manager the shop floor is where you feel right at home.
You know the importance of having the right systems and documentation, but you also know that you need to understand what's happening in production to make sure those systems are working.
You'll have experience of ISO 9001, NPI, PPAP and APQP, ideally from aerospace, high-integrity fasteners, oil and gas or another manufacturing environment where quality standards are particularly stringent.
Nuclear experience would be useful, but it isn't essential.
You'll be reporting directly to the Head of Quality, who wants someone proactive, hands-on and comfortable getting into the detail.
Someone who knows what's happening within their department, takes responsibility and can make decisions without everything needing to be escalated.
And what about the package?
You'll earn up to £55,000, working a 37-hour week with flexible start and finish times.
Most people work 7.30am to 4pm Monday to Thursday, allowing them to finish at 12.30pm on a Friday, depending on workload.
There's 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays, the opportunity to accrue an additional five days through overtime and the option to purchase another five.
You'll also have an annual bonus linked to business performance and a company pension scheme.
As Quality Manager, you're joining a site that's still developing, with the opportunity to build your team and have a real influence on how the quality function operates as production grows.
If you've spent your career in high-integrity manufacturing and you're looking for a Quality Manager position where you can take responsibility for more than just maintaining existing systems, this could be worth a conversation.
