About this role

Electrical Design Engineer
Nottingham area | £45,000–£50,000 DOE | 37-hour week, finish 1pm Fridays

Why this role?

This is a chance to own the electrical design for a varied range of bespoke engineering equipment. The company is a well-established specialist manufacturer whose products are used by customers around the world. You'll be part of a small electrical team, so your work is visible and you see it built on the shop floor.

The Company

  • An established, growing specialist manufacturer with in-house design, manufacturing and test facilities.
  • Its equipment combines control systems, motors, pumps, sensors and instrumentation, and no two projects are the same.
  • It has a friendly, collaborative and hands-on engineering culture with a strong focus on its people.

The Role
This is a practical, production-focused role rather than new product development. You'll support the existing product range by keeping electrical designs accurate, safe and buildable, working closely with production, purchasing, service and sales. It's mainly office-based, with regular time on the shop floor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce and update circuit diagrams, wiring drawings and control panel schematics using electrical CAD.
  • Select components, including motors, pumps, contactors, switches, sensors, transducers and instrumentation.
  • Specify fuses, circuit protection and cable sizes for systems up to 400V three-phase.
  • Find replacements for obsolete parts and update the technical documentation.
  • Integrate PCBs, control panels and instrumentation correctly.
  • Investigate faults with manufacturing and support the build process.
  • Make sure designs meet the relevant electrical standards and safety requirements.
  • Be the go-to person for electrical queries across the business.

What You'll Bring

  • At least 5 years as an Electrical Engineer in manufacturing, machinery or a similar environment.
  • Solid experience with wiring diagrams, circuit design and control panel schematics.
  • A working knowledge of 400V three-phase systems, motors, pumps and control components.
  • Confidence with electrical protection, fuse selection and cable sizing.
  • An understanding of electrical standards and safe working practices, ideally IPC-A-620 or ISO 9001.
  • A practical, methodical approach and good communication skills across departments.

Nice to Have

  • Electrical CAD such as OrCAD Electrical or EPLAN, though training is available.
  • VFDs, PCB connections and instrumentation.
  • ERP or MRP systems such as SAP.
  • Experience with international voltages and electrical standards.

What's On Offer

  • A salary of £45,000–£50,000 DOE.
  • A 37-hour week with an early finish on Fridays.
  • A strong employer pension, life assurance and free parking.
  • Overtime when it's available.
  • Real ownership of electrical design within a small, supportive team.
  • Long-term stability with an established manufacturer that has a global customer base.

Cruise Control Recruitment is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all suitably qualified people regardless of age, disability, gender, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation.
