Financial Controller
About this role
FINANCIAL CONTROLLER | MANCHESTER | CIRCA £50,000
Our client (a Manchester Housing Association) is seeking an experienced, qualified accountant to take ownership of its finance function and play a key role in the organisation’s financial management and long-term sustainability.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on finance professional who enjoys combining day-to-day financial control with strategic planning, financial analysis and direct involvement with senior leadership and the Board.
The role
Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will be responsible for the organisation’s financial operations, ensuring robust controls, accurate reporting and effective financial management.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing quarterly management accounts and financial reports for the Board.
- Leading annual budgets, reforecasts and long-term financial projections, including the organisation’s 30-year business plan.
- Managing cashflow, borrowing, investments and treasury compliance.
- Coordinating the annual external audit and ensuring statutory and accounting compliance.
- Overseeing day-to-day bookkeeping, banking, credit control and rent arrears.
- Leading annual rent reviews in conjunction with the housing management team.
- Providing financial analysis, advice and support to the Chief Executive, leadership team and Board.
- Maintaining effective financial controls and making the best use of Xero and other business systems.
About you
You will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), with at least five years’ experience in a senior financial management role.
You will have strong technical and analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
You will be comfortable taking ownership of a broad finance remit, working independently and balancing hands-on financial operations with longer-term planning. Experience in housing or the charity sector, together with proficiency in Xero, would be advantageous.
The opportunity
This is currently a standalone finance role, offering considerable responsibility, autonomy and direct exposure to strategic decision-making. You will have the opportunity to make a tangible contribution to the organisation’s financial strength and future development.
Location: Manchester (your location should preferably be in Greater Manchester or Lancashire)
Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Salary: Circa £50,000
Occasional attendance at meetings or events outside normal working hours and elsewhere in the region (Liverpool) may be required.
