Pay: £100-£120 per day
Hours: Full-Time | Monday to Friday

Experienced SEN Teaching Assistant - Beckton

Remedy Education is currently recruiting for a strong, experienced and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist Post-16 provision in Beckton, East London.

The school supports young people aged 16+ with severe autism (ASD), severe learning difficulties, complex communication needs and behaviours that can be physically challenging.

We are looking for someone who is confident, proactive and hands-on, with the experience and resilience needed to support students with high levels of need.

This is a busy and demanding environment, so the successful candidate must be comfortable managing challenging situations, providing personal care and maintaining a calm, consistent approach throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to Post-16 students with severe ASD and complex learning needs.

  • Support non-verbal students using appropriate communication strategies and visual resources.

  • Manage physically challenging behaviour through positive behaviour support and effective de-escalation techniques.

  • Assist with personal and intimate care, including toileting and changing.

  • Encourage independence, communication, emotional regulation and essential life skills.

  • Support students with sensory activities, practical learning and preparation for adulthood.

  • Work closely with teachers, therapists and other support staff to provide consistent care and education.

  • Maintain a safe, structured and supportive learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience supporting individuals with severe ASD and complex SEN is essential.

  • Experience working in an SEN school, specialist college, residential SEN setting or disability support environment.

  • Must be confident managing physically challenging behaviour.

  • Must be comfortable providing personal and intimate care.

  • Experience supporting non-verbal students and those with severe learning difficulties.

  • Physically active, resilient and capable of working in a demanding environment.

  • Calm, patient and able to use initiative when responding to challenging situations.

  • Team Teach, MAPA or other positive handling training would be advantageous.

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Please note: This position requires direct experience supporting individuals with complex SEN, autism or learning disabilities. General elderly care experience alone will not be sufficient.

Why Join Remedy Education?

  • Competitive daily pay of £100-£120.

  • Full-time, long-term opportunity within a specialist SEN setting.

  • Opportunity to support young people in developing independence and life skills.

  • Supportive and experienced school team.

  • Ongoing guidance from a dedicated SEN recruitment consultant.
