About this role

Overview:

We are recruiting an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of a major water infrastructure scheme in London for a Tier One contractor. The project involves complex civil engineering works, including bridge and sewer remediation, with challenging interfaces around operational rail infrastructure.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Project Manager from a heavy civils, rail, water or utilities background to take ownership of a technically demanding project from design development through to completion. The successful Project Manager will oversee programme, commercial performance, design coordination and site delivery, ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the safe delivery of complex civil engineering works, ensuring projects are completed on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards.

  • Manage the full project lifecycle, from design development and procurement through construction, completion and handover.

  • Develop and maintain Primavera P6 programmes, short-term look-ahead plans and resource forecasts.

  • Monitor project costs, financial forecasts and commercial performance, managing contractual matters and change under NEC3/NEC4.

  • Coordinate design development, temporary works, site investigations, bespoke materials and specialist subcontractors to deliver practical, cost-effective solutions.

  • Manage project teams, subcontractors and suppliers while maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants and rail infrastructure stakeholders.

  • Oversee health, safety, environmental and quality requirements, including CDM compliance, risk assessments, method statements, inspection and test plans, and handover documentation.

  • Chair progress meetings, report on project performance, resolve technical issues and maintain accurate project records.

Qualifications:

Essential

  • Proven Project Manager experience delivering civil engineering or heavy civils infrastructure projects, ideally within rail, water or utilities.

  • Degree, HNC or equivalent in Civil Engineering or a related discipline; a degree is preferred.

  • CSCS Manager-level card and SMSTS.

  • Strong experience in project programming, preferably using Primavera P6, alongside temporary works coordination or supervision.

  • Good working knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts, design management, cost control, risk management and construction planning.

  • Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors.

Desirable

  • Previous CRE-C experience or the relevant competence to undertake the role, alongside experience of complex bridge or structural works in a rail environment.

  • Knowledge of Network Rail design processes, including GRIP and PACE, and experience working with Thames Water or other major infrastructure clients.

  • Valid PTS and/or London Underground BTA certification, Appointed Person (Lifting) training, NRSWA experience or CEng MICE accreditation.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary, company pension, life assurance and private medical cover.

  • 25 days' annual leave, plus bank holidays and additional loyalty days.

  • Company car or car allowance.

  • Leadership training and ongoing professional development with opportunities for career progression.
