The Role – KS1 SEN Teaching Assistant

As a KS1 SEN Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with special educational needs across Key Stage 1.
  • Supporting children with autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, developmental delays and social, emotional and mental health needs, where applicable.
  • Helping pupils access the KS1 curriculum, including early reading, writing, phonics and numeracy.
  • Implementing individual learning strategies and supporting targets outlined in Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Encouraging positive behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement in classroom activities.
  • Developing pupils' communication, confidence, social interaction and independence.
  • Adapting activities and resources to meet individual learning needs.
  • Working collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team to monitor progress and provide consistent support.
  • Promoting an inclusive, safe and nurturing learning environment where every child can reach their potential.
The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a patient, enthusiastic and proactive individual who is committed to helping children overcome barriers to learning.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Previous experience supporting primary-aged children with SEN, ideally within KS1 or an EYFS setting.
  • An understanding of autism, ADHD, communication difficulties or other additional learning needs.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with children and encourage engagement in learning.
  • A calm, consistent approach to behaviour management and emotional support.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine passion for inclusive education and supporting children's academic and personal development.
Applications are welcomed from experienced SEN Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants, graduates and candidates with relevant childcare or education experience.
