About this role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Radar Systems Engineer to provide technical leadership across advanced radar and RF programmes within a growing, technology-led engineering organisation.

This is a hands-on technical leadership position for an experienced radar specialist who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges while helping shape the future direction of radar and RF capabilities.

You will lead the technical definition of advanced radar systems and RF architectures from concept through to demonstration and deployment, working closely with multidisciplinary teams across RF, electronics, signal processing, software and systems engineering.

The role also offers the opportunity to influence technical strategy, mentor engineers, support customer engagements and contribute to the development of new capabilities and programmes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of advanced radar and RF systems.
  • Define and assess RF architectures against complex and evolving customer requirements.
  • Make system-level trade-offs across performance, cost, risk and implementation complexity.
  • Provide technical leadership to multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Develop radar system requirements, architectures and performance models.
  • Conduct system-level analysis and evaluate radar performance, including detection range, resolution, sensitivity and clutter.
  • Act as a technical authority when engaging with customers and stakeholders.
  • Support technical scoping, proposals, project planning and programme development.
  • Identify opportunities arising from customer challenges and emerging technologies.
  • Mentor and develop engineers across radar, RF and systems disciplines.
  • Contribute to technology roadmaps, research and capability development.

Experience & Skills

We are looking for a highly capable engineer with 10+ years' industrial experience in customised radar systems development, with deep expertise across a substantial proportion of the following:
  • Pulse and FMCW radar systems
  • SAR and radar imaging systems
  • Radar performance modelling, analysis and architecture development
  • Antenna concepts and system integration
  • Radio propagation and RF link/level planning
  • RF transceiver architecture and synthesiser systems
  • RF and microwave circuit design
  • Distributed microwave and millimetre-wave techniques
  • High-performance frequency synthesisers and analogue RF electronics
  • Requirements capture, analysis and systems engineering
  • Verification and validation planning
  • Technical leadership of multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Project definition, technical scoping and capability development

Security Clearance

UK Security Check (UKSC) / UK Eyes Only (UKEO) eligibility is essential. Candidates must also be willing and eligible to obtain NATO Secret and UK Developed Vetting (DV) clearance. Existing NATO Secret and/or UK DV clearance would be highly desirable.

What’s on Offer
  • A senior technical leadership position within an advanced engineering environment.
  • The opportunity to influence the development of radar and RF capabilities.
  • Exposure to technically challenging, multidisciplinary programmes.
  • Significant autonomy and the opportunity to shape technical direction.
  • Strong opportunities for technical and career development.
  • A collaborative working environment with regular team and social activities.
  • Convenient access to Cambridge by road and rail.
